Inua Kazi provides affordable, quality childcare so mothers can work, study, and build better futures — for themselves and their children. Because when mama rises, everyone rises.
"When mama rises, everyone rises."
— The Inua Kazi missionIn Kampala's low-income communities and across Uganda, thousands of mothers want to work, study, and grow — but have nowhere safe and affordable to leave their children. The result is a cycle of poverty that spans generations.
Our anchor partner sees this every cohort: talented young mothers who drop out of skills training programmes simply because they have no childcare. Not for lack of ability. Not for lack of drive. Just for lack of a safe place to leave their baby.
WITU's trainees regularly abandon skills programmes mid-course because they have no childcare during sessions.
Even WITU graduates who secure employment struggle to maintain regular work without reliable childcare.
Market vendors, domestic workers and informal workers face the same wall — private nurseries cost UGX 80,000–250,000/month, far beyond reach.
"The barrier isn't skills. It isn't motivation. It's childcare. Inua Kazi removes that barrier."
We operate a hybrid model that meets mothers exactly where they are — flexible enough for the informal economy, quality-driven enough to transform children's outcomes.
Trained community women open their homes as certified, safe childcare spaces for children aged 6 months to 3 years. Each Mama Hub serves 5–8 children with flexible hours from 6am–7pm.
A centrally located crèche serves children aged 3–5 years with structured early learning, health screening, nutrition support, and parenting sessions.
Inua Kazi was born from a real, documented problem observed across multiple programme cohorts by our anchor partner. Our partnership is built around aligned incentives: our partner's training investment is protected when mothers stay enrolled. Inua Kazi's client base is secured from day one.
WITU refers trainees and graduates to Inua Kazi. We track programme completion rates before and after childcare access. The data makes the case — for both organisations — to funders, employers, and government.
Our three-month pilot in Kawempe Division will lay the foundation for country-wide reach. Every number below represents a mother who can stay in training, a child who can thrive, a family that can break the cycle.
